Office Awash with Tinselled Staff

It’s beginning to feel like Christmas
Commuters tired on the tube
Shoppers on busy oxford street
Travellers bickering and being rude
Novelty jumpers worn just once
An office awash with tinselled staff
Mince pies, chocolate supplies
Twinkling lights so very naff
Queues of parents for the “must have” toy
Clothes bought to at party deploy
Cards and cards and cards and cards
Chintzy wrapping measured by the yard
Wizard, wham singing tunes
Grandad, grandma busting moves
Tv like there was none before
Carol singing for the poor
Remembering those you wish were here
Prayers to counter hate and fear
Bah humbug and merry wishes
Comfort eating calorific dishes
Everyone involved in family fun
Celebrating a year past, new one begun
Christmas comes just once a year
Love and hope to all, far and near

Red Mist

When you’re raw, it’s hard
Hard to keep the tears in and the fears out
Days of happiness turned
On a few words.
The bright day falls to dark night
Emotions, heartache, take flight
Nothing you can do to make it right
Best to let it be.
Emerge from mist red
See what you could have done instead
Learn that what was said
Was born of love

I Dare Not Say

I love you
But dare not say
Just in case you
You don’t feel that way
In case in time
I change my mind
And you don’t
Don’t feel that way

You Don’t Know What You’re Missing

You don’t know
What you’ve been missing
You don’t know
How good it could be
You don’t know
Because nobody told you
But now you’re with me you’ll see

There’s time for me to listen
It’s not hard to hear your heart
You deserve more than you’ve been getting
Believe in us right from the start

You don’t know
What you’ve been missing
You don’t know
How good it could be
You don’t know
Because nobody told you
But now you’re with me you’ll see

I will tell you what I’m thinking
I’ll be honest, loyal and true
You deserve more than you’ve been getting
Someone who’s really into you

You don’t know
What you’ve been missing
You don’t know
How good it could be
You don’t know
Because nobody told you
But now you’re with me you’ll see

We can be close, intimate
I will worship you from head to toe
You deserve more than you’ve been getting
I’ll do everything to love you so

You don’t know
What you’ve been missing
You don’t know
How good it could be
You don’t know
Because nobody told you
But now you’re with me you’ll see

You’ll see, I love you so

It’s Easy to Love

It’s easy to love
It costs naught, it’s free
We all have it in us
Just try and you’ll see
If it’s hard it’s because
From breath one to now
You’ve been taught to forget
So you might not know how.
See an infant at play
A simple bundle of joy
Is filled up with love
That it easily deploys
Gives love to a parent
Embraces a bear
But we soon lose that feeling
As we grow to not care
In teenage the cool ones
Get praised by the rest
So warmth and emotion
Are put to the test
At work, in our twenties
Relations get tough
Worrying about all sorts
Does he love me enough?
So you learn to hold back
You build a brick wall
You lose how to love
Until you’re left with f all
At that point when your trust
And your joy and your hope
Are at zero, wake up
Don’t be a dope
Remember it’s easy
It takes no time to say
I love you, I love you
You’ll be better that way

Whisper “Love”

Whisper “love”
A word taken by lightest breeze
Or shouted over clubs bold sound
We come from vibrations

The air disturbed
By thoughts conveyed
Creates a fragile concept
From which you are made

Be it love or less,
Relations and loves heard
Give rise to all of us
A birth into the real world

Into life, kicking, you arrive
A ball of energy, movement, noise
Making crashing waves
Born of an idea in voice

Life’s performance, simple, complex
Some heard more than the rest
Your friends and family audience
Does to your piece attest

After your life’s rendition
Laid or scattered on the ground
When last bow has come
You return to concept in sound

A eulogy performed in tears
Stories retold for years and years
Sage words heard in times needed
Memories when advice wasn’t heeded
In dreams the voice you know
Never fades when all else might go

Conceived of vibration
Energy given form
In the end returns to sound
Of which we were born

Ever Been Loved?

Have you ever been loved?
Has anyone taken the time?
To listen to your story
To look for the signs
When you aren’t happy
Or have an issue in mind
There’s a treasure trove
Of attraction to find

No Longer Apart

For the briefest moment
The beat of a heart
You were present
Here, no longer apart
I went to call you
Your scent in the air
Could see you at home
Your eyes and your hair
Your warmth, your love
The feel of your touch
A full sense of you
I miss you so much

Ten Foot Tall

Some days can be full of grind
Heavy burden on your back
Others hold no promise
Interest and excitement lack
This Monday is different
Today I’m ten foot tall
No one knows the reason
That glee has come to call
It’s a not so secret smile
That’s very poorly kept
That from heart and mind
Has to my features leapt
There’s hope and promise
No real need to be coy
There’s an early start
To what might be joy
To sum it up
Truth confer
Yesterday
I met her.

She Harbours Greatness

It’s been day of knowing
A day passed since we met
Time of raised awareness
Of hope and no regret
We’ve shared a morning walk
She bought me a large coffee
In humbly, being lovely
She’s set something lose in me
It’s excitement and a lightness
Heightened senses, blocked no more
I can see she harbours greatness
Within, perhaps like nobody before
Maybe I am too accepting
Perhaps my romance does me wrong
But after one morning so relaxed
There’s a chance we both belong
In a state of simple sharing
Of being who we chose to be
A product of the space we’re making
Me for her and her for me
Forgive the poet’s license
To exaggerate, to maximise effect
But there’s much to praise this pair
Even in the short time to reflect
She has beauty but doesn’t realise
Is wise but seeks no credit for its source
She’s interesting and vibrant
A thousand questions would not be forced
So without rushing or expecting
We can meet around a boating theme
Two honest souls exploring
What might be, and dare to dream
