Human haze,
Tube packed,
Commuter daze,
Spaces stacked,
Rumbling progress
Grumbling mass
Station after station
Rolling past
Then stop.
Doors open
Shining light
Smiles abound
Like day from night
A swish of hair
A quiet look
She enters
Ground shook
Corner rail
My hand by hers
Raging thoughts
Love whispers
Phone immersed
Hidden eyes
My waking dream
Tube surprise.
Happy ever after
Twisting tales of love
Boy and girl embroiled
In quest, true and pure
In adventure, evil foiled
Where hearts are exposed
No soft fairy story exists
Lives at stake, battles fought
With so much at risk.
Fail and face a life
With a soul mate lost
Succeed and rapture find
Existence, joy reinforced
Understand your plot
Check the tale you are in
Disney cute or crooked dark,
Brooding from brothers Grimm
Be sure whatever you see
Go forth with blessed hope
Stay open of true heart
Two souls may yet elope
Let down your scaling hair
From your lonely tower high
Keep watch for kindred folk
The good twist for you is nigh
Over the horizon comes
Your knight in shining armour
Be bold, ready in yourself
Embrace the positive drama
Know who you are, be strong
Have learned what’s key for you
Happy ever after is there
But it depends on what you do
What we had was love
I will take the pain
If that means what we had was love
A furrowed brow and lack of sleep I will keep
If that means what we had was love
I will accept a broken heart, my world torn apart
If that means what we had was love
Retain memories precious, despite making me nauseas
If that means what we had was love
For if it wasn’t love and this is for naught
I won’t be able to face the brutal emotional onslaught
I will wish you well, not cast into hell
If that means what we had was love
Forgive your changed mind, try to be kind
If that means what we had was love
I’ll face the friends we shared, alone, torment shown
If that means what we had was love
Find a way to feel once more, a loving encore
If that means what we had was love
For if it wasn’t love and this was all a lie
I will lock myself away, and hope will die
You know what life means
Gather the masses
Gather their souls
Tell them the truth
That there’s no golden goal
We all make our way
We all choose a path
With none of us certain
And with no turning back
Some they will stumble
Some they will fall
Some venture far
Some get nowhere at all
But we’re all on a journey
We travel each day
So pick out your target
The suns out, make hay
One day you will trip
One day you will fly
One day the path endless
The next miles rush by
Up ahead on the route
By the fork in the road
There’s a friend to find
To help share the load
Go on independent, or
Decide to hold hands
Enjoy shared moments
A change to your plans
Don’t feel so constrained
Don’t make no demands
Enjoy company in your life
Together, while you can
It may not last long
You may end up apart
But love with your all
Be glad from the start
Then when you’re alone
You will regret not a thing
Look back on your travels
You’ve gained everything
A heart full of loving
A mind still full of dreams
While others are vexed
You know what life means
My Barista Glance
Woke up this morning
Processed down the street
Said good morning to someone
That twice daily I greet
Got to the station
But popped out for a drink
Now a smile for my barista
Is making me think
She’s paid to be friendly
To make the talk small
Which probably means
She feels nothing at all
She smiles at her client
Whoever they be
The look for one moment
Wasn’t special you see
But. However tiny it is
There’s the smallest chance
That more was meant
Than just an amicable glance
She’s been nice before
Made coffee for free
Shared plans for the weekend
Maybe she’s sweet on me
We’ve touched hands, albeit fleeting
When passed drinks or my change
Perhaps she wants to be asked
Perhaps this thought isn’t so strange
Now. However tiny it is
There’s the smallest chance
That more was meant
Than just an amicable glance
Twisted Blood
Twisted blood flows
Through his irrational heart
Pushing then pulling
Swirling vortex inward
He sees beauty in faces
Meets to explore a soul
Then realises another
Is his focus, his goal
He’s not shaken attachments
He’s still fixed on a girl
That for moments fleeting
Was his entire world.
She helped him, and he her
They grew ever so close
She was the one
The person he loved the most
So what now? Decisions?
Try to move on?
Look for another?
Accept that she’s gone?
Feels like waste
A terrible shame
Why not go back
Try again.
Maybe she’d take him
Perhaps it would work out
This time would be different
But then there’s a doubt
What if it’s not
What if it’s the same
What if he is repeating
So don’t try again.
And so it goes back
And so it goes forth
Directions confused
No sense of true North
He’s spinning, he’s hurting
He is falling apart
Twisted blood flows
In his wavering heart
Hope Restored
Beauty at every turn
A light about the world
Trees glow a new green
Since our love unfurled
Standing out from the crowd
Feeling luckier than the rest
Stronger, taller, happier
Since I woke with you on my chest
Energised to meet the days tests
Fear and worry all gone
Driven, bold, productive
Since we held each other as one
Seeing the good in faces
Hope restored as if from above
A belief it will all be alright
Since you taught me to love
Then along came a girl
One too many mornings
Same old routine
Autopilot sequence
Eyes open nothing seen
Processing through each week
Same old routine
Day after long day
Eyes open nothing seen
Years slide away unnoticed
Same old routine
Survival no revival
Eyes open nothing seen
Then along came a girl
Clarity.
In a moment of her beauty
Emotional stumble
Structures tumble
Elevated.
Life from other views
Enriched with colour
Kaleidoscope hues
No sequence
Don’t let patterns interfere
Chase your love
Anything, everything, to hold her near
Empty Seat
A journey through life
Is best traveled with friends
But needs an observer
Who is there to the end
Someone to talk to
Someone who cares
Someone to hear you
Someone who shares
The highs and the lows
The good and the bad
A person who knows you
And the journey you’ve had
When young it’s a parent
Who watches you race
Who is there willing you on
With a smile on their face
There’s a time when it’s mates
Who have got your back
Who go out, onward, upward
And keep you on track
Then maybe a girlfriend
Then maybe a wife
Someone committed
To help build a life
But
At times this collapses
All history lost
A death, separation
A fall out, divorce
These times can be tough
With your audience gone
It’s a lot to adjust
At your table for one
In these time you remember
How it felt in the past
With your mum and dad
With mates having a blast
It all seems so distant
Joys that will never repeat
As you sit staring forlorn
At a cold empty seat
But these times can improve
All you need is a plan
And you’ll soon find yourself
Together, holding a hand
See the trick is be open
Don’t go hiding away
You walk past twenty new friends
On your journey each day
Just one of those people
On a day coming soon
Might come in and sit down
At the chair in your room
It’s about you, not a man
Stop with this folly
You’ve not thought it through
You’re processing through life
Because it’s what is expected of you
A proposal, a marriage,
A baby, and then
You’re done, you’re complete?
That’s what the system pretends
Life isn’t that simple,
Look at the end to your path
It’s not happy ever after
It’s happy after graft
Working at relationships
Working to earn a crust
Trying to be your best
You have to work, you must
So take a moment to think
Pause write a plan
You can build up to happy
It’s about you, not a man
