Twisted Blood

Twisted blood flows
Through his irrational heart
Pushing then pulling
Swirling vortex inward
He sees beauty in faces
Meets to explore a soul
Then realises another
Is his focus, his goal
He’s not shaken attachments
He’s still fixed on a girl
That for moments fleeting
Was his entire world.
She helped him, and he her
They grew ever so close
She was the one
The person he loved the most
So what now? Decisions?
Try to move on?
Look for another?
Accept that she’s gone?
Feels like waste
A terrible shame
Why not go back
Try again.
Maybe she’d take him
Perhaps it would work out
This time would be different
But then there’s a doubt
What if it’s not
What if it’s the same
What if he is repeating
So don’t try again.
And so it goes back
And so it goes forth
Directions confused
No sense of true North
He’s spinning, he’s hurting
He is falling apart
Twisted blood flows
In his wavering heart

Empty Seat

A journey through life
Is best traveled with friends
But needs an observer
Who is there to the end
Someone to talk to
Someone who cares
Someone to hear you
Someone who shares
The highs and the lows
The good and the bad
A person who knows you
And the journey you’ve had
When young it’s a parent
Who watches you race
Who is there willing you on
With a smile on their face
There’s a time when it’s mates
Who have got your back
Who go out, onward, upward
And keep you on track
Then maybe a girlfriend
Then maybe a wife
Someone committed
To help build a life
But
At times this collapses
All history lost
A death, separation
A fall out, divorce
These times can be tough
With your audience gone
It’s a lot to adjust
At your table for one
In these time you remember
How it felt in the past
With your mum and dad
With mates having a blast
It all seems so distant
Joys that will never repeat
As you sit staring forlorn
At a cold empty seat
But these times can improve
All you need is a plan
And you’ll soon find yourself
Together, holding a hand
See the trick is be open
Don’t go hiding away
You walk past twenty new friends
On your journey each day
Just one of those people
On a day coming soon
Might come in and sit down
At the chair in your room

Beginning of Nothing

This is the beginning
The beginning of nothing
Everything has changed
It’s the absence of truth
And nothing remains
Everything has changed

Born of the silence
In the darkness of loss
Everything has changed
It’s the birth of a new hope
Born of millions of half thoughts
Everything has changed

Solutions begin to take shape
Skyward elation takes over
Everything has changed
This could be the right path
Rocket fuelled elevation
Everything has changed

Light years from ground zero
With the stars up ahead
Everything has changed
Full of love, hope and rapture
Everything is possible
Everything has changed

Tears Flood the Deck

Waves of life sweep relentless
Breaking against the brow of man
Tears flood the deck then doldrums
Enjoy the sun and good times when you can
Set your course and watch for icebergs
Pick a crew and give them trust
Check yourself when the winds feel worse
Don’t turn back unless you must
Seas will be rough at times, don’t panic
You know yourself, your crew, your ship
If the horizon seems to vanish
Consult your map take time to think
Out on the ocean you’re always turning
To take the wind or avoid the rocks
A single line plotted out on paper
Is really twists and turns and shocks
We’re all out guiding a vessel
No one knows much more than you
Stick to your course, your goal, you mission
That promised land will come into view

Looks Like Summer

Looks like summer outside
From the space in my head
The light through the curtains
Helps me get out of bed
It’s warm where I’m laying
But the promise of sun
Sees me throw back the covers
And put my clothes on
It’s a while since I’ve ventured
From my safe shielded home
I’ve been laid up for winter
Since she left me alone
But enough introspection
Let’s stop the cold nights
I will resume my journey
Go see summer’s sights
No matter the season
Be it fair, fall, or rain
I will see the summer
And feel better again
I’ve cast off my covers
Ready once more
To enter the fray
To walk out through my door

A Kindness

A kindness unrequested has chipped my veneer
I’m crying in Camden, I’m smiling through tears
A kindness surprising has caught me off guard
And softened the surface I use to look hard
The chip in my shield lets the world inward see
How my heart lies in pieces and my mind isn’t free
A moment of friendly is all it seems to take
To make me feel alone in this time since the break
I’m grateful for kindness, for happy, for making a friend
But can’t help but feel lonely, in tears, ‘til I mend
