First Date

Nerves
Should have worn a newer top
She’s going to hate my look
Brain whirring, overthinking, can’t stop

Sit by the door
No get to the back of the cafe
Be busy writing, don’t sit waiting
There’s no chance this goes okay

Be yourself
You’re joking! Be Mr super cool
She’s so much better than you
This matters; don’t play the fool

Relax
Remember she’s human too
Don’t fret she’ll be nervous as well
She’s the one who wanted to meet you

Could be it
She might be the one
This could be the day of meeting
A date to Remember in years to come

She’s here
Surge of adrenaline rush
Make eye contact, she’s electric
Excited this could mean so much

Her Touch

Imperfect day, imperfect night
Images of her confound my sight
Her scent, her voice, evoke so much
Above all else, I miss her touch
Skin to skin, cheek to cheek
Hand in hand, her touch I seek
A long embrace, a fleeting kiss
Side by side in bed, it’s this I miss
We got so close, we meant so much
A perfect love, a perfect touch

Made Of The Same Cloth

Slow and gentle tear in our fabric
Runs from edge to core
Torn from side to side
One made two, together no more
In the moments after parting
Frayed seams reaching out
The two still fit perfectly
A match, a marriage, doubt
We are made of the same cloth
Should two halves not make a whole?
Why separate? Why not mend?
In tearing what was the goal?

Neg and Nag and Pick

Negatives all the time
Feeling pulled apart
With so much wrong with me
Why did we even start
You clearly had a plan
To neg and nag and pick
To tie me up in knots
To twist me until I’m sick
I told you that’s enough
I said please leave alone
My core and central traits
Or risk being on your own
You couldn’t let me go
You didn’t let me be
The bad is all you saw
You saw no good in me
Or at least so it seemed
From what you did each day
So now I’ve turned you down
And tried to run away
Upset and feeling low
I miss you in spite of how we were
You’ll find your match in time
Someone you love for who they are

Fleeting Smile

Gentle smile
Walking through London’s teaming streets
Flashed lashes
Is that what she does to everyone she meets
Intimate moment
Brilliant light blinding against dark commuting plight
Fleeting beauty
The chance of joy on this lonely lonesome night

It’s you I want to shelter

When the rain falls hard
From a dark brooding sky
It’s you I want to shelter
Even now. I don’t know why?
We’ve not been together
We’ve been so far apart
But it’s you in my head
When I feel low in my heart
What we had was an epic
That rolls on beyond its time
You define real belonging
I was yours and you were mine
I huddle in our shadow
And take comfort from the cold
That even though we ended
Our love does not feel old
There beneath my consciousness
It’s wrapped around my soul
So that when I’m losing hope
I feel it renew my life’s goal
Of finding someone as good
Finding someone just as true
Lifting her into my arms
And loving her instead of you

Appreciate Life

I appreciate life
It’s getting better
I appreciate you
As we get closer
I appreciate family
And feeling supported
I appreciate hope
Looking for the good
I appreciate people
All shapes and sizes
I appreciate my luck
In having all I have
I appreciate love
In all it’s many guises
I appreciate a friend
I’ll try to be one too
I appreciate the sunshine
Happiness and humour
I appreciate the rain
Making me stronger
I appreciate the wicked
I’ll watch and learn their lessons
I appreciate the meek
Quietly going about their day
I appreciate peace
With so many warring nations
I appreciate being nourished
With so many without what they need
I appreciate my power
To make life something special
I appreciate the time
To create something new

Broken Dreams

Broken dreams
Surround me it seems
Desires when I was life sure
Are torn apart, no more
A marriage at an end
Friendships I can’t mend
Close family at war
Bruised, battered and sore
You had given me hope
New dreams, emotions evoked
Hand held
Past demons felled
You felt what I felt
Lives meld
Differences were always there
Issues, conflicting beliefs aired
As all else merged
These conflicts diverged
Try as hard as we might
Our love forced them tight
But never together.
This dream wasn’t real
Despite the appeal
Of a new hope new goal
A chance to form one whole
Love. Defining what life means
Amongst a field of broken dreams

Emotion Expressed

Express your emotions
Let out what you feel
Keep on explaining
That the love you have is real

It doesn’t matter the medium
It doesn’t matter the care
That’s taken to love convey
To get your insides out there

Don’t temper your message
Deliver pure and simple truth
If it’s strong then it’s strong
Go shout it, raise the roof

Take care with your subject
Reflect on what is said in return
Don’t hammer unwelcome doors
Don’t risk bridges being burned

Express your emotions
Let out what you feel
Keep on explaining
That the love you have is real

Rollercoaster Love

Over the top
Shuddering car doors open
All aboard the rollercoaster ride
Lights shine all the fun of the fair
Tickets taken, excitement you cannot hide

No safety barrier can you close
As rickety train takes to the skies
Panicked, hold on for dear life
Until off the rails your ride flies

Detached, derailed, decoupled
Over the brow of looping track
Free falling without control or plan
The end; with no turning back

Then suddenly you ride the loop
The path meets you, up you soar
Head in the clouds, ecstatic
Joyous, in love, once more
